2020 Rockpile Primitivo – Sonoma County
The Rockpile AVA is perched high above Dry Creek Valley in Sonoma County. Ranching and hunting dominated this area for over a century before Rockpile’s legacy of grape growing began. First planted in 1992, Rockpile became an official AVA in 2002. Presently, it contains 15,000 acers of land with only 160 planted to grapes. It is most notably known as one of Sonoma County’s best regions for Zinfandel. We’ve sought out this area for our 2020 Primitivo. Long thought to be the same as Zinfandel, Primitivo is now known to be the Italian sibling to the more well-known American varietal.
Our Inaugural 2020 vintage of our Rockpile Primitivo is a lighter bodied wine that opens up with hints of underripe cherries and earthiness on the nose. On the palate, cranberries, red currant, and bright acidity give way to nice strong tannins and a smooth finish. This wine showcases the best of the Rockpile AVA and is a perfect addition to our portfolio.
